Verandering begint met ruimte maken

Wanneer je vastloopt in je leven, lijkt het vaak alsof er iets kapot is dat gerepareerd moet worden. Maar mijn ervaring leert dat echte verandering meestal niet begint met oplossen. Het begint met ruimte maken. Ruimte om stil te staan, te kijken, en te voelen wat er in je omgaat.

Ik herinner me een periode waarin ik zelf steeds maar door bleef gaan, denkend dat ik de dingen kon oplossen door harder te werken en nog meer in te spannen. Pas toen ik bewust een stap terugdeed, een wandeling maakte zonder doel en gewoon even zat zonder meteen antwoorden te willen, merkte ik dat er weer ruimte ontstond. Als ik daar op terugblik dan zie ik dat in die ruimte, en door die ruimte, als vanzelf weer inzichten naar boven kwamen.

Die ervaring heeft me geleerd: je draagt al alle nodige kracht, helderheid en veerkracht in je. Wat ontbreekt, is niet de capaciteit, maar de ruimte om dit naar boven te laten komen.

Een andere manier die ik als zeer krachtig ervaar is het gesprek aangaan: Op een veilige plek en zonder oordeel onderzoeken wat er speelt, inzicht krijgen in patronen en stap voor stap weer richting vinden. Zoals hierboven al naar voren komt ontstaat groei niet doordat je jezelf forceert, maar doordat je ruimte geeft aan wat er allemaal al in je aanwezig is.

Misschien herken je het: er is een verlangen naar verandering, maar je weet nog niet precies hoe. Het kan al helpend zijn om dat verlangen serieus te nemen. Soms is het zetten van die eerste stap, het gesprek aangaan, genoeg om iets in beweging te brengen.
